EV Charger Offline or WiFi Not Working

EV Charger Offline or WiFi Not Working: Causes and Fixes

Last updated: September 26, 2026 · ChargePapa Knowledge Hub

“Offline” usually means the app or cloud cannot communicate with the charger; it does not automatically mean the charging power path has failed. First separate power, local charging and remote connectivity, then follow the exact model’s pairing instructions.

Which layer is actually offline?

Layer Quick check Meaning
Power Display/indicator powers normally Unit has supply, not proof of network
Local charging Vehicle starts a permitted session Power path may work without cloud
Local Wi-Fi Router sees device or pairing succeeds LAN/radio path available
Cloud/app Remote status updates Account/server path available
Protocol backend Managed station reaches its configured system Only relevant to models using that protocol

What are the safest first checks?

  1. Confirm the charger has normal power and no electrical fault condition.
  2. Check whether local charging works without the app.
  3. Confirm the required Wi-Fi band and signal at the charger.
  4. Check for changed SSID/password, router isolation or captive portal.
  5. Restart in the order stated by the charger and router instructions.
  6. Re-pair only with the model-specific procedure.

What should not be assumed?

Do not assume every model supports 2.4GHz only, remote control, Bluetooth fallback, OCPP, cloud charging authorization or the same reset sequence. Those details must come from the exact SKU documentation. Also do not confuse a vehicle schedule with an EVSE app schedule.

Which current connected products are relevant?

The V2 Type 2 socket wallbox catalog documents Wi‑Fi, app and RFID controls. The T4A portable EV charger catalog documents LCD, app and Wi‑Fi features across its product family. Troubleshooting steps can still differ by variant and firmware.

Choose by electrical fit, then connectivity

If replacement is actually required, use the Buyer’s Guide to match the connector and installation before comparing app features.

What are the limitations?

This guide cannot provide a universal factory-reset sequence. Use the exact manual or ChargePapa support with the SKU, app version, firmware and router details.

Frequently asked questions

Will an EV stop charging when Wi-Fi goes offline?

It depends on the model and current session. Many EVSEs can continue local charging without cloud access, but remote scheduling, status and history may be unavailable. Check the exact product manual rather than assuming universal behavior.

Why did changing my router password disconnect the charger?

The EVSE may still hold the old network credentials. Follow the model-specific pairing/reset procedure and add the charger again if instructed. Do not perform a factory reset unless the manual or support process calls for it.

Does every ChargePapa charger use Wi-Fi?

No. Connectivity varies by model and variant. A basic EVSE without app or cloud functions cannot meaningfully be diagnosed as “offline” in the same way as a connected model.

When should I stop network troubleshooting?

Stop if there is electrical damage, overheating, repeated breaker trips, water intrusion, a failed power-up sequence or a fault indicator that the model manual treats as a service condition. Network resets do not repair electrical faults.
