Home Charger Installation Protocol: 7kW to 22kW & Dual-Gun Systems (US/EU)

⚠️ HIGH VOLTAGE & LOAD WARNING

Installing 14kW (Dual Gun) or 22kW stations requires significant grid capacity.
Do not install without a "Load Calculation" by a certified electrician. Overloading your main panel can cause immediate blackout or fire hazards.

Installing a ChargePapa Station (7kW - 22kW) is a precision engineering task. Below is the standard protocol for both single-unit and high-power dual-unit installations.

🚗 Recommended Home Setup by Vehicle Model
EV Model Max AC Intake Recommended Charger
Tesla Model 3 / Y 11.5kW (48A) T4A Pro (48A)
Hyundai IONIQ 5 / Kia EV6 11.0kW (3-Ph) V8 Series (11kW)
Ford F-150 Lightning 19.2kW (80A) MRS-AJ8 (Dual 40A)

Phase 1: Grid Capacity Check (Crucial)

Before buying copper wire, check your property's total available power.

For High Power (14kW / 22kW) Users:

  • 22kW (3-Phase): Requires 32A per phase. Ensure your home has at least a 63A or 80A 3-phase main connection.
  • 14kW (Dual Gun): Often draws 60A-64A Single Phase (US) or 2x 32A. Requires a dedicated 200A service panel in most residential settings.
  • Breaker: Dedicated dual-pole (US) or 4-pole (EU) breaker required. Must be rated 25% higher than the charger's output (e.g., 40A breaker for 32A load).
  • Recommended Wire Gauge (Copper):
Power US Spec (AWG) EU Spec (mm²)
    7kW (32A) 8 AWG 6 mm²
    11kW (16A 3-Ph) - 2.5 mm² - 4 mm²
    22kW / 14kW 6 AWG / 4 AWG 10 mm²

Phase 2: Mounting the Heavy-Duty Backplate

  1. Wall Strength: For Dual-Gun units (often 10kg+), ensure you are drilling into solid brick, concrete, or a wooden stud. Drywall alone will not hold.
  2. Level the metal backplate and secure with M6 expansion bolts.
  3. Ensure airflow clearance of at least 20cm around the unit for cooling.

Phase 3: Wiring Connection (High Power)

🇺🇸 North America (14kW/19kW)

Hardwire 240V (High Amp)

  • L1: Black (Thick Gauge)
  • L2: Red (Thick Gauge)
  • Ground: Green

*Check torque settings! High amps cause heat expansion.

🇪🇺 Europe (11kW/22kW)

3-Phase TN-S System

  • L1, L2, L3: Grey/Black/Brown
  • N (Neutral): Blue
  • PE (Earth): Yellow/Green

*For 22kW, ensure all 3 phases are live and balanced.

Phase 4: Load Balancing & Activation

  1. Dynamic Load Balancing (DLB): If your ChargePapa unit came with CT Clamps, install them at the main meter to prevent grid overload.
  2. Flip the breaker ON.
  3. Check the LED status light:
    • 🟢 Solid Green: Standby (Ready).
    • 🔴 Red Flash: Wiring Fault (Check Grounding).
  4. Test with your EV.
