The IONIQ 5 charging adapter question depends on model year — the port changed between 2024 and 2025.

The 2022–2024 IONIQ 5 uses a CCS1 port and requires a NACS-to-CCS1 DC adapter to access Tesla Superchargers. Built on Hyundai's 800V E-GMP platform, the IONIQ 5 Long Range supports DC fast charging up to 220 kW. At 1,000V DC (Supercharger V3 operating voltage), that equals 220A continuous through the adapter. A 500A-rated adapter carries that load at 44% of rated capacity.

The 2025 IONIQ 5 switched to a native NACS port and plugs directly into Superchargers without an adapter. It does, however, need a J1772-to-NACS adapter to access J1772 Level 2 stations, which still represent the majority of public AC charging locations.

The IONIQ 5 is unique among V2L-capable EVs because it offers two independent discharge paths.

Method 1 — Simplest

Exterior V2L Socket

Under the front bumper · J1772

A dedicated J1772 socket flush-mounted behind a flap under the front bumper. Permanently in discharge mode — no app, no settings menu, no activation required. Use the V2L-US adapter for this port.

Method 2 — All V2L Trims

Charging Port Discharge

CP Signal Trigger · 2,000Ω resistor

Uses a 2,000Ω resistor on the Control Pilot (CP) pin to signal the bidirectional charger into discharge mode. Works on all V2L trims. EU users: use the V2L-EU or V2L-Pro adapter.
