ChargePapa The Versatile Home Charger | MRS-ED 7kW–22kW Smart AC Wallbox (Type 2, Detachable Gun)
Couldn't load pickup availability
One wallbox. One cable. Works at home and at public chargers without a gun.
The cable detaches. Take it with you.
The ChargePapa MRS-ED — The Versatile Home Charger — is a Type 2 smart wallbox with a detachable charging cable and gun. At home, the cable hangs on the unit — grab the gun, plug in, done. Away from home, take the cable with you and use it at European public chargers that provide only a Mode 3 socket with no gun. Available in 7kW single-phase, 11kW three-phase, and 22kW three-phase. RFID access control, WiFi + Bluetooth app, 4.3" LCD display. TÜV and CB certified. IP54 rated.
🔌 At Home + 🚗 On the Road — One Cable Does Both
The MRS-ED comes with a detachable Type 2 cable and gun. At home, it stores on the wallbox — hang it up after each charge. When you need to charge away from home at a public station that only has a Mode 3 socket (no gun provided), take the cable with you.
Many public AC chargers across Europe — particularly in Germany, the Netherlands, France, and Scandinavia — are socket-only Mode 3 stations. Without your own Type 2 cable, you cannot charge at these stations. The MRS-ED means you already own the cable you need.
Step 1 — Confirm Your Vehicle Uses a Type 2 Port
The MRS-ED uses a Type 2 (IEC 62196-2) detachable gun — the universal AC charging standard across Europe and Australia. All variants use the same connector. Confirm your vehicle's AC charging port before selecting a power level.
🔌 Type 2 / IEC 62196-2 Port
7-pin round connector. Standard on all EU-spec EVs and Australian-market vehicles.
VW ID.3/ID.4 · BMW i4/iX · Audi e-tron · Mercedes EQ · Porsche Taycan · Renault Zoe/Megane · Hyundai IONIQ (EU) · Kia EV6 (EU) · Tesla Model 3/Y (EU-spec) · Volvo EX30/EX40 · Polestar 2/3
⚠️ Other Port Standards
The MRS-ED does not support these connector types.
CCS1 / SAE J1772 (US-spec) · Tesla NACS (North America) · CHAdeMO · GB/T · UK-spec vehicles requiring PEN fault protection → choose MRS-EU instead
Step 2 — Match Your Home Power Supply
Choose based on your home's electrical supply type. All three variants use the same Type 2 detachable gun — the difference is input power and charging speed.

🏠 Who Is the MRS-ED Built For?
The EU homeowner in Amsterdam, Munich, or Lyon who charges at home most of the time but occasionally uses public AC chargers — many of which in Germany, the Netherlands, and France are socket-only Mode 3 stations with no gun provided. The MRS-ED detachable cable means you already own the cable you need for both. No separate portable EVSE to buy.
The three-phase household in Germany or Belgium with a Porsche Taycan or Audi e-tron GT that supports 11kW or 22kW AC charging. The MRS-ED-22032 delivers the full 22kW the car can accept at home, and the detachable cable goes with you to public three-phase socket stations when needed.
The Australian homeowner in Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth adding a permanent home charger. The MRS-ED-07032 (7kW, single-phase) works on standard Australian single-phase residential supply. The detachable cable is practical for occasional use at public AC socket stations in shopping centres and car parks.
✅ Standards & Certifications
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: The cable is detachable — does that mean I need to carry it every time I charge at home?
A: No. At home, the MRS-ED cable and gun store on the wallbox holster — the daily routine is identical to a fixed tethered charger. Arrive home, take the gun off the unit, plug into your car. The cable is always there when you need it. The difference is that you can detach it and take it with you when you need to charge at a public Mode 3 socket-only station — something a fixed tethered wallbox cannot do.
Q: Can I take the cable with me to use at public chargers?
A: Yes. The MRS-ED comes with a detachable Type 2 cable and gun. When you need to charge at a public AC station that provides only a Mode 3 socket (no gun), take the cable with you. Many public chargers across Germany, the Netherlands, France, and Scandinavia are socket-only — you need your own Type 2 cable to use them.
Q: What is the difference between the MRS-ED and the MRS-EU?
A: The MRS-ED has a detachable cable — you can take it to public socket-only chargers. The MRS-EU has a fixed tethered cable that stays permanently on the unit. The MRS-EU also adds IK10 impact resistance and PEN fault protection for UK PME supplies (BS 7671 Amendment 2). If you're in the UK on a TN-C-S (PME) supply, choose the MRS-EU. For EU and AU homes, especially if you use public socket-only chargers, choose the MRS-ED.
Q: Which configuration should I choose — 7kW, 11kW, or 22kW?
A: If you have single-phase power (most EU and AU homes), choose the MRS-ED-07032 (7kW / 32A). If you have three-phase power, the MRS-ED-11016 (11kW) or MRS-ED-22032 (22kW) are available. The 22kW option is only beneficial if your vehicle's onboard charger supports three-phase AC input at 32A. Confirm with your electrician before ordering.
Q: Do I need an external RCD with the MRS-ED?
A: No. The MRS-ED has built-in leakage protection rated at AC 30mA + DC 6mA, detecting both AC and DC fault currents. This meets EU and AU EV charging safety requirements without an additional external RCD device. Your electrician should confirm local requirements before installation.
Q: Is the MRS-ED compatible with Tesla vehicles?
A: Yes — for EU-spec Tesla vehicles. EU-market Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X use the IEC 62196-2 Type 2 port and are compatible with the MRS-ED detachable gun. US-spec Tesla vehicles with NACS (SAE J3400) ports are not compatible with this unit.
Q: Can the MRS-ED be installed outdoors?
A: Yes. The MRS-ED is rated IP54, providing protection against dust and water splashing from any direction. It operates from -30°C to +50°C — suitable for outdoor garage walls, carports, and open parking installations across EU and AU climates.
⚠️ Critical Usage Note
- Professional electrical installation by a qualified electrician is mandatory. Do not self-install.
- Confirm your electrical supply type (single-phase or three-phase) before ordering. Three-phase models require a three-phase supply.
- UK installations: the MRS-ED does not include PEN fault protection. UK homeowners on TN-C-S (PME) supplies should choose the MRS-EU instead.
- This unit is designed for AC Level 2 charging only. It does not support DC fast charging.
- Inspect cable, gun, and connector regularly. Discontinue use if damage or overheating is detected.
- When using the detachable cable at public chargers, verify the station is a Mode 3 AC socket compatible with IEC 62196-2 Type 2 before connecting.
